Which churches we list
Every church in the finder meets one standard. Here it is, with every denomination and the document behind each decision.

The standard
A church is listed when it holds the historic Christian faith of the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, the authority of Scripture and salvation by grace through faith in Christ, and teaches that marriage is one man and one woman. Each listing is checked against this standard automatically, using what a denomination's own governing documents and official statements say today. We link the document and the date of the check.
A listed church affirms
- The Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, including the Trinity and the deity and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- The authority of Scripture.
- Salvation by grace through faith in Christ.
- Marriage between one man and one woman. The church does not perform same-sex weddings and does not ordain or install clergy in same-sex relationships.
Every church that claims its page or asks to be listed affirms this standard on the form. Listing is free. A denomination we do not list holds a different official position on one of these points. That is a statement about its documents. It says nothing about the people in its churches, and any of them can write to us.

How one church is decided
A church can differ from its denomination, so we decide each church in this order.
- The church's own decision. 60 congregations have a decision of its own. A congregation that left its denomination, or that states a position of its own on its website, is decided by those statements. Each decision names the page it rests on and the date.
- The denomination. The church's listing names its denomination, and the card above sets the decision.
- A general label. A church that calls itself by a label that covers many bodies is checked church by church (next section).
- Anything else. A church with a denomination not yet on this page is listed, because we have no document that says otherwise.
Labels checked church by church
Some words name a whole range of churches. Christian, Non-denominational, Nondenominational, Evangelical, Independent Christian Church, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist and Reformed each cover congregations that hold very different positions. A church listed only by one of these labels is marked church by church. It stays in the finder while its own statement of faith is checked, and it comes out if that statement breaks the standard.
The same applies to the 6 denominations marked Church by church above. Their congregations govern themselves, or the denomination publishes no current rule, so each church answers for itself.
If we have it wrong
Documents change. If your church or denomination is marked Not listed or Church by church and you believe that is wrong, write to hello@churchposting.com with four things.
- The name of the church, its city and its state.
- The link to the page that states your position, such as your statement of faith, your constitution or your denomination's current governing document.
- The line or lines that matter, copied out.
- Whether you are asking about one church or a denomination.
We check what you send against the document, and we change the decision when the document supports it. The new decision appears on this page with the document and the date.
If a church is not listed
A church that does not meet the standard has no page in the finder. It does not appear in the lists, the state and city pages, the map, the search or our sitemap. An old address for its page answers with a 410 Gone notice, which tells search engines the page is removed on purpose.
A church that is not listed can still use every free tool and every guide on churchposting.com. The standard governs the finder.
